Da die Kohärenz des Lichtes so entscheidend ist, gehen wir hier kurz auf sie sein. Normales Licht unterliegt in seiner Ausbreitung starken Schwankungen (Phasenschwankungen). Das bedeutet, die Lichtwellen bewegen sich räumlich nicht parallel und zeitlich nicht monochromatisch. Kohärentes Licht hingegen weist eine konsistente Phasenbeziehung auf: Alle Lichtwellen sind räumlich parallel und zeitlich monochromatisch. Dieses Licht hat also einen hohen Grad an Ordnung. Und deswegen kann es auch ordnungsbildend wirken und Informationen biologisch wirksam übertragen.
